US equities finished Friday's session higher, capping a volatile week in which the 10-year Treasury yield pushed toward levels not seen since 2007.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 478.64 points, or 0.93 percent, to close at 51,828.62, while the S&P 500 added 39.28 points, or 0.51 percent, to finish at 7,743.41. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 129.34 points, or 0.48 percent, to 27,068.72. Small caps lagged, with the Russell 2000 inching up just 0.07 percent to 2,837.55.

Yields climb, volatility eases

Across asset classes, the 10-year Treasury bond yield ticked up to 5.18 percent, while the Cboe Volatility Index dropped 5.11 percent to 14.87. Crude oil futures slipped 2.33 percent to settle at $92.41.

A split market

The week's gains were not evenly shared. The Dow's Friday advance was enough to snap a three-week losing streak, leaving it up 0.3 percent for the week. The S&P 500 gained 1.2 percent for the week, finishing within about 1 percent of its recent high, while the Nasdaq rose 2.0 percent — the best performer among the majors for a second straight week — after notching a fresh all-time closing high mid-week before easing back as yields climbed.

Analysts note that beneath the index-level resilience, market breadth has narrowed sharply, with large-cap AI and technology stocks doing most of the heavy lifting while small caps, financials and cyclical sectors lag.
