Actor Rakul Preet Singh on Monday issued a detailed statement on Instagram denying any connection to Income Tax Department search operations in Mumbai, saying the searches were not about her and calling reports linking her to them "false, malicious and speculative."

"The search was not pertaining to me," she wrote, urging the media outlets that carried the reports to retract them and issue clarifications.

What the searches were about

The Income Tax Department's Mumbai division conducted searches at more than 12 premises in Mumbai in connection with alleged financial irregularities and foreign capital transfers tied to film ventures, according to reports. The operations reportedly involve her father-in-law Vashu Bhagnani, her husband Jackky Bhagnani and the production house Pooja Entertainment; The Hollywood Reporter India also names Panorama Studios in its account.

Moneycontrol, citing sources, reported that authorities have been tracking large sums routed overseas, allegedly disguised as expenses for foreign location shoots, international production spending and overseas distribution rights. India Today was the first to report the searches.

It is important to note that the Income Tax Department has issued no formal statement on the matter and has not confirmed any violations, according to The Hollywood Reporter India. Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani are yet to respond to the reports, per Times Now. Times Now also reported that Vashu Bhagnani, who was in London when the news broke, was admitted to a hospital; no details have been disclosed.

Rakul's denial

In her statement, the actor said she is not involved in any illegal foreign remittance "in personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house." She added that she holds no benami property in India or abroad, has never received property as a gift and refuses such gifts as a matter of principle.

Drawing on her background, she pointed to her Armed Forces upbringing, the absence of an industry godfather and the fact that she has been paying her taxes since the age of 20.

On the work front, Rakul was last seen in Mudassar Aziz's Pati Patni Aur Woh Do (2026), and she next appears as Surpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari's big-budget Ramayana.
